Many mega projects are in the offing to make Colombo the most beautiful City in South Asia.
The Government has opted to further expand the development projects which are in place within the Colombo City. The Cabinet has endorsed a related proposal submitted by President Rajapaksa. The Urban Development Authority has identified more projects. Accordingly, the Manning Market in Pettah is to be relocated at Peliyagoda.
It is planned to launch a special commercial complex for pavement hawkers expanding the Pettah Central Bus Stand. The Central Market Complex where the Fish Market is located will be totally reconstructed. The Master Plan for the development of the Colombo City also includes the Race Course Grounds, the Bloomfield Sports Grounds and the Marketing Department in Colombo Fort. Development programmes are also in progress in related to the Conservation of areas affiliated to Colombo Fort and the Beira Lake and the environs at Independence Square. Construction work is entrusted to the Engineering Services Divisions of the Armed Forces.
